Question Time!

As a woman will I bulk up if I lift weights?

As women our genetic make up is not capable of building serious amount of muscle ‘bulking’ unless steroids are taken, so the short answer is no, lifting weights will not make you bulk up. Lifting weights is the only way to get that sculpted look that we all want!

How many calories should I be eating a day?

This depends on your goal and amount of energy output, (the amount of movement you are doing in a day)

How many times a week should I exercise?

To lead an active healthy lifestyle, then being active everyday is ideal and doing a workout 3-4 times a week would be preferable.

Do I have to give up alcohol?

Everything in moderation. Balance is key, your fitness journey has to be realistic otherwise it won’t be sustainable.

How long should I exercise for?

This really depends on the intensity of the exercise you are doing. If you are working to 70/80% of your maximum heart rate then 20-30 minutes is perfect. But if you are working to 50/60% the 45mins - 1hr is ideal.

How do I keep motivated?

There are some days when everyone feels unmotivated and I also get these feelings, the key is to JUST DO IT! Once you start sweating your mind will be in it and you will be motivated, remember how good you will feel after. On the same note though, listen to your body, and start to understand the difference between being lazy or actually being tired and needing a rest. You will start to understand that on some days when you can’t be bothered its because you are being lazy or its cold outside and all you want to do is watch tv and have a glass of wine and these are the days you need to get your ass in gear get your workout stuff on and get moving because its all in your mind! But then on another note some days your body will be telling you it is genuinely tired physically and mentally and pushing it even more can be the worst things to do, these are the days when you get the wine and put your feet up! I joke but seriously the more you start to understand your body the more you will be able to tell the difference between the two.
